Inside Russ Hollander’s brick-walled storefront, glass display cases glimmer with platinum and gold rings, earrings and necklaces. But the shop — is worlds away from your typical mall jeweler.
Toward the back of the store, beyond a mahogany service counter, is Hollander’s workshop, a space packed with tools and machinery. There’s even an anvil and a hammer to bend and shape metal. Hollander is a master goldsmith. Part of a waning breed, he fabricates all his jewelry by hand — cutting, drilling, filing, polishing.
It is through this centuries-old practice that he creates legacies — and works of art — that will endure for generations.
