At the end of Mott Street you’ll find Union Park, another First Taxing District park that sits idle most days. The park is also the head, or end, or the Norwalk’s section of the Norwalk River Valley Trail. That trail runs along the route 7 connector embankment till it cuts over through Mathews Park, under I-95 and along Oyster Shell Park. From there you are essentially in SoNo and at the shore of the Norwalk Harbor. But we digress, this snippet is all about Union Park.
Though small, the park was much bigger before route 7 bisected the land not so long ago. A flag pole and monument to Charles J. Post, a former Navy Veteran who died in 1977 are somewhat featured in the park. A platform that could be used for something sits in a lonely position at the far end of the park. Is there more to tell? Who knows. Shoot us an email if you have history of this quiet park.
